ATTENDANCE ▪
SWIM BEHAVIOR Practice is vital to a swimmer’s development and to our team’s success. Please make every effort to attend practice, especially practices at CSC on meet days, so that we may work with full relay teams. Swimmers that practice with YMCA or USS teams for Long Course should notify the Head Coach, as those practices will count towards the swimmer’s minimum practice requirement. Swimmers who consistently miss practice must meet with the Head Coach and the Swim Committee Chairperson to discuss their continued participation. In order
to earn an end-of-the-year award, swimmers are required to attend either two
dual meets and finals (A or B), or attend a minimum of four dual meets.
Swimmers are expected to act like ladies and gentlemen at all team functions.
Swimmers asked to leave a team function due to improper behavior must meet with
the head coach and their parents before they can resume activities with the
team. Any swimmer who exhibits improper behavior may, if warranted, be
suspended or expelled from the team. Practice groups are organized by ability levels. Because of the large number of swimmers in each practice group, coaches cannot take car pools or other factors into consideration when assigning a swimmer to a group. Swimmers will only be allowed to attend practice groups to which they have not been assigned with a coach's permission and only on a very limited basis. The Swim Committee will strictly enforce this rule. We expect our swimmers to work hard and to give 100% effort at all practices. Swimmers are assigned to a practice group based on ability and at the coaches discretion. Swimmers must be able to swim one length each of two competitive strokes. In most cases, returning swimmers will start the year in the group they finished with the previous year until they are re-assessed by the coaches. New swimmers generally follow the guidelines below.
During meets, swimmers should stay with their team / teammates. 10 & under swimmers will be marshaled. All team members are expected to participate in every meet (either scored or exhibition). Any exceptions must be cleared with the coaches. If there is a conflict, the swimmer must sign the “I Can’t Swim Sheet” posted on the swim team board. If you know that you will miss either A or B finals, let Kristi know ASAP! Team members are expected to be on time for the entire warm-up at meets. If you must be late, make arrangements with the coach ahead of time or you could be scratched from the entire meet.
Swimmers should not sit with
spectators or parents or “hang out” away from the team. All swimmers are
expected to watch the meet and cheer for their teammates until the last relay is
swum and the final score is announced. LINE UP FOR DUAL MEETS AND A & B FINALS Per NSSL regulations, swimmers can swim in a maximum of two events and a relay. Some younger swimmers may be asked to “swim up” in age groups. This is done in order to score the most points possible, and give these children a chance to participate in a scored event. Dual meet lineups are designed to allow the team to score the maximum amount of points. Because of the large number of swimmers in some age groups, swimmers may be scheduled to swim in exhibition heats. Exhibition heats do not score points. However, times achieved in exhibition heats will count towards the swimmer’s team “ranking”.
As with dual meets, lineups for A finals have entry limitations for each event.
These limitations make it impossible for all CSC swimmers to swim in this meet.
The lineup for A finals is designed to let the team score the maximum amount of
points, since the final standings determine league placement for the following
summer. Swimmers not swimming at A finals will be eligible for the B finals.
This meet is run similar to A finals with the exception that it does not affect
the final league placement and there are no relay events. Concerns about
lineups should be brought to the attention of the head coach. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend all of their child’s swim meets. While swimmers don’t always admit it, having Mom and Dad come to watch them swim is very important. Parents are asked to please inform the head coach in writing of any medical condition that may pose potential problems for their swimmer. In case of emergencies, the coaching staff needs to know of existing medical conditions.
The coaching staff asks that parents refrain from talking to their swimmers
during practice. This often becomes a distraction for the entire team. The
coaching staff is always available to respond to parental concerns both before
and after practices.
Check the swim board — located beside the snack bar — daily. All swim
information will be posted there first. Check “The Box” located at the club
entrance for all handouts and flyers. A team newsletter will be placed in your
family’s folder in “The Box” and will be available on the team bulletin board.
Parents are asked to remind their swimmer(s) to bring the newsletter home.
The front desk and
staff at the club will refer all swim team calls to the Head Coach and / or Swim
Chairperson. Also,
the web site is available as a source of information. Please check it often at
http://www.cranbrookswim.com.
Swim team records are posted on the record board just to
the left of the front desk. They are also available on the web site,
